Key Points of New Fine Feeding Techniques for Nursery Pigs
(Agricultural Wealth Network)    Nursery pig feeding and management is an important link in pig farm management where problems are very likely to occur. To fully implement fine feeding of nursery pigs and achieve the goal of improving quality and efficiency, it is necessary to use capable and strong personnel, select breeding stock with the utmost care, carry out feeding with intensive and meticulous management, and calculate costs carefully. In more than 20 years of production practice, the author has developed a set of effective practical fine feeding techniques for sows, and the key points are introduced as follows.

Goal: survival rate above 98%, incidence rate below 3%, and maintain uniformity.

① Weaning method: use the "move the sow, keep the piglets" method for weaning (drive the sow away and keep the piglets). After weaning, maintain three unchanged conditions: unchanged feed; unchanged pen; unchanged litter.

② Strict disinfection: after the nursery house is thoroughly cleaned, disinfect it strictly. For the floor, flame or spray disinfection may be chosen; for the space, fumigation disinfection may be chosen. Then leave the house empty for a period before introducing pigs. After the pigs are introduced, insist on disinfecting with the pigs present once a week.

③ Transfer and grouping: implement the "all-in, all-out" feeding method as much as possible, with 10-30 pigs per pen being appropriate, and 0.2-0.3 sq m per pig. Transfer is best carried out in the evening. When forming groups in the pen, try to keep pigs from the original pen together in the same pen. For those that are small and weak in groups with uneven development, regroup them and give them especially preferential feeding.

④ Gradual feed change: after weaning, continue feeding piglet pellet feed, and control intake, with 70%-80% fullness being appropriate; after 45-50 days of age, gradually change to complete feed made from high-quality premix or concentrate.

⑤ Environmental requirements: in the first week after weaning, humidity is 55%-65%, and temperature should reach 27-25°C, then decrease gradually by 2°C each week until reaching 21°C at 10 weeks of age. The smaller the temperature difference between day and night, the better, and at the same time prevent drafty wind.

⑥ Feeding method: when using the trough meal-feeding method, feed according to the trough, give less and add frequently, adding feed 2-3 times per day, and it is appropriate to leave a slight amount of leftover feed in the trough after the pigs are full; when using the automatic feeder method, keep the feeder continuously supplied with feed.

⑦ Pay attention to drinking water: tap water or deep well water may be used for drinking. It is best to use nipple drinkers (height: 25-35 cm), with a separate water tank to facilitate medication. When using water troughs for drinking, pay attention to changing the water frequently and keep the water clean and hygienic.

⑧ Disease prevention and control: pay attention to eliminating the "four pests", namely mosquitoes, flies, rats and stray cats, cut off disease transmission routes, and ensure biosafety. Carry out immunization and deworming on time, with emphasis on the prevention and control of digestive tract and respiratory tract diseases, especially Haemophilus parasuis, edema disease, Streptococcus, and infectious pleuropneumonia. Improve the body's immunity and disease resistance, taking into account antiviral, antibacterial and anti-stress effects, and reduce the occurrence of digestive tract and respiratory tract diseases. One of the following prescriptions may also be selected for continuous feeding for 1 week. Prescription one: in each ton of feed, 6% tilmicosin 1000 g, doxycycline 200 g, astragalus polysaccharide 500 g; prescription two: in each ton of feed, 80% tiamulin 125 g, chlortetracycline 2 kg, amoxicillin 2 kg; prescription three: according to the instructions, add electrolytic multivitamins, astragalus polysaccharide powder and tiamulin to drinking water. Immunization: at 60 days of age, use spleen and lymph vaccine for classical swine fever by intramuscular injection of 1 dose; at 65 days of age, intramuscular injection of 2 mL for foot-and-mouth disease; at 70 days of age, intramuscular injection of 1 dose of attenuated vaccine for swine erysipelas.

⑨ Observe the pig herd: check feeding, drinking and health status every day, and isolate and treat sick pigs.
