Pereskia, also called leaf cactus, is a plant in the cactus family. It is often used for grafting, and after grafting it heals relatively quickly, because its compatibility is quite good and its root system is also very well developed, so it is often used to graft Christmas cactus, ball cacti, crab cactus, Schlumbergera, and others in the cactus family, and is known as the "grafting wonder wood"

For the Pereskia we usually use for grafting, we should choose semi-lignified branches, preferably branches grown in the current year, which already have a certain hardness but are not too old, with greenish stems. Branches that are too tender are very prone to shriveling back when used for grafting, causing the graft to fail,

while branches that are too hard have less sap inside, which makes healing more difficult, so grafting also tends to fail

When we graft, we choose this kind of semi-lignified branch, then remove its leaves to reduce nutrient consumption. You can leave one or two leaves for photosynthesis, or leave none. When grafting, the temperature is best around 20°C, and grafting in spring or autumn is most suitable

The grafting method commonly used is areole grafting. At the areole of the Pereskia, make a cut to expose the cambium, then also make a cut on the Christmas cactus to expose the cambium, then align their cambiums and clamp them with a clip. Place it in a dark place and it will take about a week to survive. After surviving, it grows very fast

You can also use the top grafting method, but if it is not done well, the top grafting method easily causes shriveling back, leading to graft failure

Right now it is summer and the Pereskia is growing extremely fast. You can water it more, place it in a semi-shaded environment, and fertilize it two to three times a month. The fertilizer should be mainly nitrogen and potassium fertilizer, and then your Pereskia can grow to one meter tall in a month,

Propagate a few more now, and you can graft in autumn. Grafting is really addictive
