How to treat hypodermosis in dairy cows with Chongbiqing
Application of Chongbiqing in treating hypodermosis in dairy cows
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Hypoderma larvae in dairy cows are the larvae of the cattle grub fly (Hypoderma bovis) and the northern cattle grub (Hypoderma lineatum), a parasitic disease in which they parasitize the subcutaneous tissue along the back of cattle. It can cause sick cattle to become emaciated, stunt their growth, and reduce milk yield, becoming a major obstacle to the development of the dairy industry today. Since 2004, the author has treated a total of 34 cases of dairy cows with hypodermosis, using Chongbiqing, and all achieved a 100 percent satisfactory result. The diagnosis and treatment process is reported as follows.
1 Treatment method
1.1 Source of the drug
Chongbiqing, produced by the Northeast Agricultural University Kefa Veterinary Drug Factory. Agricultural Feed Additive Registration No. (95) 049008.
1.2 Dosage and course of treatment Dairy cows were dosed at 0.1 g/kg body weight, and efficacy appeared 1 week after administration. If the effect in an individual affected cow was not significant after 1 dose, then 1 repeat dose was given 15 days after the first dose, and the cow was completely cured after 2 doses.
2 Typical case
In Yonghe Village, Xinfa Township of our city, a farmer named Li Hongbin kept 1 five-year-old Holstein cow, which came to the station for treatment on May 12, 2004. On clinical examination, the affected cow was emaciated, depressed, and had reduced milk yield; cattle grub larvae were seen parasitizing the subcutaneous tissue 5-10 cm on both sides of the dorsal vertebrae, with a distribution area on each side of 30-40 cm along the body length and 20-30 cm in width, and the cattle grub larvae were all enveloped by subcutaneous tissue to form round, firm nodules. There were about 100 or more cattle grub nodules distributed on the back of the cow. The cow weighed 550 kg, and was given 55 g of Chongbiqing, 11 packets in total, mixed with an appropriate amount of ordinary water and administered by drenching in 1 dose; it recovered after 1 dose. Follow-up visits afterward showed no recurrence.
3 Discussion
Chongbiqing has a strong repellent and killing effect on external parasites such as cattle grub larvae in dairy cows. When using Chongbiqing for treatment, the key lies in accurately calculating the body weight of the sick cow, so as to effectively kill the grub larvae at all stages. We treated 32 cases with 1 dose, accounting for 94% of the 34 affected dairy cows that came for treatment; the other 2 cases were fully cured after 2 doses, accounting for 6%, with an overall cure rate of 100%, and the final curative effect was very satisfactory.
