Analysis of the Causes of Cucumber Plant Death and Control Methods

What Is Going On with Cucumber Plant Death
(Agricultural Wealth Network)    Recently, some farmers have reported that the cucumbers they grow often suffer from plant death, and they would like to know what causes it. Cucumber plant death is a symptom of cucumber blight, and its obvious difference from the symptoms of Fusarium wilt is that the vascular bundles do not change color. It can occur after rain followed by sudden bright sunshine, after watering for too long, during consecutive cloudy and rainy days, after a long period of continuous cropping, under high planting density, and when drainage is poor.

To control this disease, disease-resistant varieties should be selected, and cultivation should be carried out on plots with high terrain that can both drain and be irrigated, using plastic film mulching and high-ridge cultivation; avoid flood irrigation and keep the ground dry. After the fruit has set, watering must not be done by flood irrigation or frequent watering; do not rotate continuously with cucurbitaceous vegetables; grafting onto black-seeded pumpkin (Cucurbita ficifolia) rootstock can also control this disease.

Once diseased plants are found, they should be pulled out immediately and buried deep, and chemical control should be applied. A 600-800 times dilution of 50% metalaxyl-mancozeb can be used for spray control. Alternatively, 25% metalaxyl and 50% thiram can be mixed 1:1 to make a 500 times dilution for root drenching, with 200-250 milliliters per plant, once every 7 days.
