Comprehensive Control of Corn White Seedling
(Agricultural Wealth Network)   Recently, farmers have reported that "white seedlings" often appear in corn fields during the seedling stage, which is caused by zinc deficiency. Generally starting from the 4-leaf stage, the leaf color at the base of new leaves becomes lighter and turns yellowish-white. At the 5-6 leaf stage, leaves 1-3 below the heart leaf show stripes alternating between light yellow and light green, but the leaf veins remain green, and purple stripes appear at the base. After 10-15 days, the purple gradually turns to yellowish-white, the leaf mesophyll becomes thin, presenting "white seedlings." In severe cases, the entire field turns white. Zinc-deficient corn plants are short and small, with short internodes, overlapping leaf collars, and slow growth of the heart leaf, appearing flat-topped. In severe cases, the white leaves gradually dry up, and even the entire plant dies.

  Control measures:

Increase base fertilizer application: Mainly organic fertilizer, supplemented by chemical fertilizer, with rational fertilization. Organic fertilizer must be fully decomposed and subjected to harmless treatment. Apply about 2500 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer per mu, and about 1.5 kg of zinc sulfate, mixed together with the organic fertilizer, combined with land preparation, applied into the soil as base fertilizer.

Zinc fertilizer seed dressing: Mix 20-40 grams of zinc sulfate per kilogram of corn seed. When dressing seeds, first dissolve the fertilizer with a small amount of water, then spray it onto the seeds, mix well, and sow after drying.

Scientific topdressing: Mainly foliar topdressing, which is a good method for supplementing zinc fertilizer after discovering corn "white seedlings." The concentration and dosage are spraying 40-50 kg of 0.1%-0.2% zinc sulfate solution per mu, starting from the jointing stage of corn, spraying once every 10-15 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays, with relatively obvious results.
