The role of phosphorus in sesame
(Agricultural Wealth Network) Although the phosphorus content in the sesame plant is only 11.6% of that of nitrogen and only 44.8% of that of potassium, when phosphorus supply is insufficient, cell formation and proliferation are hindered, growth is slow, and the leaves and stems turn purplish-red, which affects the metabolic functions of roots and leaves such as nutrient absorption, decomposition and transport, leading to reduced yield. Applying more phosphorus fertilizer, however, can increase yield by 17.6% to 52%. With sufficient phosphorus, drought resistance is enhanced, and the plants can mature early with high yield and good quality.
