Safe storage conditions for sesame seeds
(Agricultural Wealth Network) After sesame seeds are threshed, they should be sun-dried, air-dried, and winnowed to remove dust, impurities, and shriveled grains, then passed through a sieve to remove soil clods, broken stems and hard bits, insect droppings, grass seeds, and other matter larger than the seeds, so as to prevent foreign matter from absorbing moisture and increasing the seed moisture content; every effort should be made to keep the safe moisture content of the seeds below 8%. The seed warehouse should be clean and disinfected; the site should be dry, well ventilated, and moisture-proof; it should have sealing facilities to prevent damage by rats, birds, and insects; cooling equipment is needed during high-temperature periods.
