Since I got into bonsai, I've completely changed as a person

When you fall in love with bonsai,
what you're really falling for is a certain way of life,
and you suddenly realize you've completely changed...
1
Since I started playing with bonsai, I've been busy beyond belief every day, pruning, styling, repotting... so busy I'm in seventh heaven, and whenever I get a bit of spare time I go hunting for raw material and picking out pots, my head full of bonsai from morning to night. In short, if I'm not moving bonsai around, I'm on my way to move bonsai around. From then on I said goodbye to a dull, boring life and found spiritual comfort.

Since I started playing with bonsai, swapping material has become a regular exchange of gifts. When I hear an acquaintance has acquired a fine piece of raw stock, I get the urge to go see it, and to toss in a comment or two. If I see a stranger fiddling with a bonsai, I just stare, and I really want to go up and strike up a conversation: Hey buddy, that bonsai of yours is really something...

Since I started playing with bonsai, over tea or after meals, on walks or in casual chats, I often pick a little mountain path, hoping to stumble on a beautiful piece of raw stock. One trip after another, and gradually I feel much better in spirit than before.

Since I started playing with bonsai, I've begun to look askance at the little trees in ordinary pots. Straight up and straight down, straight this way and straight that, and I'm itching to bend them a couple of times. This probably confirms that saying: "Anyone who plays with bonsai must have something wrong with them." Straight ones have to be chopped and bent, healthy ones have to be stripped of bark to look old, and some get holes drilled in them and eyes gouged out, their heads cut off and their feet chopped off.

Since I started playing with bonsai, I've completely said goodbye to the mahjong table, I no longer gamble or drink heavily, my temper has grown much gentler, I'm more and more patient with things, and I no longer jump into the deep pit of the stock market. Having money brings me less joy than finding one good piece of raw stock.

Since I started playing with bonsai, there's no more secret stash of money, my sleeves are clean and my spirit upright.
Since you started playing with bonsai,
what's the biggest change in you,
