Determining ripeness based on the external features of a watermelon
(Agricultural Wealth Network) When the fruit of different varieties ripens, it shows the characteristics inherent to that variety: the surface color of the fruit changes from dull to bright, the skin color becomes aged, the patterns on the rind are clear and smooth to the touch, the ground spot where it rested on the soil turns dark yellow, the blossom end is sunken inward, and the stem end is slightly shrunken. All of the above are the morphological features of a ripe watermelon; otherwise it is an unripe one.
