Key Technical Points for Training and Vine Pressing of Plastic-Film-Mulched Watermelon
In plastic-film-mulched watermelon cultivation, because soil nutrients are released quickly, premature aging tends to occur in the later stage. On the other hand, the plastic film can cause high-temperature vine scorching during the later growth stage of watermelon. Therefore, the branches at the base of the roots and vines should not be pruned too cleanly, so that they can play their proper role in covering and supplementing nutrition; early-maturing varieties may not need branch removal.
On top of the plastic film, the open vine-pressing method is used. The vines root and grow luxuriantly after creeping over the plastic film, so vines must be pressed in time to regulate the relationship between vegetative growth and reproductive growth and promote fruit setting.
