What are the characteristics of the growth and development of seedless watermelon
Characteristics of the growth and development of seedless watermelon
First, it is self-incompatible and needs pollinator plants. The female and male gametes of the female and male flowers of seedless watermelon are abnormal, and the pollen of the male flowers has no viability; after pollination it cannot stimulate the development and swelling of the female flower ovary, so fruit setting is relatively difficult.
Second, it has obvious hybrid vigor. Triploid seedless watermelon is the first filial generation of a cross between tetraploid and diploid watermelon; therefore, triploid seedless watermelon plants show vigorous growth in the field, have relatively strong resistance, and have a high demand for fertilizer and water.
