Detailed Introduction to the Morphological Characteristics of the Indian Jujube
Morphological Characteristics of the Indian Jujube
The Indian jujube, also known as the Yunnan jujube or Indian date, is native to southern Asia Minor, North Africa and eastern India. In China it is distributed in Taiwan, China, Yunnan, the Yangtze River basin and Hainan Island. Both the young leaves and young shoots bear brownish fuzz, while the mature leaves are hairless on the surface and densely fuzzy on the underside. In subtropical regions it is evergreen; its fruit is reddish brown and smaller than that of the common jujube, with a persistent calyx, and of poor quality. This species is widely cultivated in India and is also grown in southern Taiwan, China, where it flowers from September to October and the fruit ripens from December to February of the following year.
