As people's living standards rise, more and more people have fallen in love with growing flowers. It beautifies the home and purifies the air at the same time, a win-win in one move, especially for common foliage pot plants like pothos, which truly can be grown everywhere across the country, and its care is simple too. A flower-loving friend, Aunt Yang from Anhui, is especially fond of growing pothos. Her pothos generally gets no fertilizer, but every time the pothos enters its growing season, that is, in summer, her pothos grows like crazy, and at other times Aunt Yang is never seen fertilizing it, yet the pothos keeps pushing out new leaves. Neighbors and friends were all puzzled and asked Aunt Yang how she did it. Aunt Yang shared a little method: a skilled gardener grows pothos by feeding it a "big watermelon" every 7 days, and it goes a whole year without fertilizer!

When is summer the most enjoyable? Of course, eating watermelon and watching TV, as enjoyable as it gets. But while you are eating watermelon, don't forget your pothos. For example, Aunt Yang eats the red flesh herself and gives the rind to her pothos. How exactly is this done?

Before explaining how to use it, let's first talk about why you can feed watermelon rind to pothos. This is mainly because watermelon rind is rich in nitrogen fertilizer, sugars, minerals and vitamins, which are very good for caring for pothos. It also makes use of waste, solving the fertilizer needs of pothos without spending money, killing two birds with one stone, and it is especially practical.

The method for making flower fertilizer is as follows:

When eating watermelon, keep the rind, then remove the red flesh that was not eaten cleanly, cut it into small pieces, and put them into a large plastic bottle. Note here that no water needs to be added; then put the lid on, but do not screw the lid on too tightly, leave a little gap to avoid gas buildup.

Place the plastic bottle filled with watermelon rind in a sunny spot on the balcony. The more sun it gets, the faster it decomposes. Open the lid of the plastic bottle every day to let it breathe. Watermelon rind compost generally has no smell. If you are worried about odor, you can put in some orange peel.

In summer, watermelon rind will release liquid after 10 days to half a month of composting. This liquid can be poured out and used directly to water flowers and fertilize them. The remaining watermelon rind can stay in the bottle and continue to be sunned until it no longer releases liquid. The leftover watermelon rind residue can be buried at the bottom of the pot as a base fertilizer for the flowers.

It needs to be diluted with water. You can dilute it at a ratio of watermelon rind liquid : clean water = 1:10, then water the flowers after dilution.

Used this way, Aunt Yang says you can probably use the rind of one big watermelon in 7 days. If you keep using it through one summer, you will not need to fertilize for the rest of the time in that spot, and the pothos will still grow well, without yellow leaves or the like from lack of fertilizer.

Of course, to grow pothos well, besides fertilizing, we also need to pay attention to the following care points:

First is light. Pothos cannot be exposed to harsh sun; direct sunlight will turn the leaves yellow. So to grow pothos well, it must be kept in a semi-shaded, bright, indirect light and well-ventilated environment. Pothos grows faster in environments with higher air humidity. It is recommended to maintain indoor humidity, and you can use a humidifier to increase air humidity. You can cover the plant with a transparent plastic bag to create a mini greenhouse effect, but it should not exceed two hours.

For watering, it is recommended that flower lovers water once every 5-8 days, and there must be no water accumulation in the pot.
