When is the best time for rootstock grafting?
Grafting jujube seedlings in the nursery has four suitable periods: (1) 2 to 3 weeks before spring bud break, when the temperature is around 10 degrees, is a good time for cleft grafting and whip-and-tongue grafting; (2) 3 to 4 weeks after bud break, when the temperature is around 15 degrees and the phloem is easily separated from the bark, is the suitable period for bark grafting; (3) the high-temperature season between July and August in summer is the best period for bark grafting, with a high survival rate, and 10 days after grafting the buds can sprout and send out shoots; (4) from late August to late September, when shoot growth has stopped, is suitable for whip-and-tongue grafting. When grafting, cut the rootstock 30 cm above the ground and leave a certain number of auxiliary nourishing branches. Grafting is not easy after rain or during the rainy season, as the graft wound is prone to bleeding, which leads to grafting failure.
