Detailed Explanation of Jujube Tree Grafting Methods and Technical Key Points
The budding method for jujube trees differs from that of ordinary fruit trees. The bark of one-year-old jujube branches is relatively thin, so to cut a complete bud shield, a thicker portion of woody tissue must be included. The method is as follows: make a horizontal cut 2 mm above the bud, 2 to 3 mm deep; then from 1.5 cm below the bud, cut upward at a slant for a length of 2 cm and a width of 4 to 8 mm, flat on top and pointed at the bottom, with xylem attached. On the rootstock, at a point 10 cm above the ground, select a flat side of the branch and cut a "T"-shaped incision in the bark, with the horizontal cut 0.6 to 1 cm long and the vertical cut 2 cm long. Pry open the vertical incision, carefully insert the bud shield so that the upper cut edge of the bud bark fits tightly against the horizontal cut of the rootstock, then bind and wrap it securely.
