Girdling methods for jujube trees

To girdle a jujube tree, support the tree with the left hand and hold a hatchet in the right hand, working counterclockwise. Starting from a point 30 cm above the ground on the trunk, work from bottom to top, striking the trunk with the hatchet held perpendicular to it so as to wound the bark, with the depth reaching the phloem without damaging the xylem. The hatchet cuts are generally spaced 2 cm apart horizontally, with 2.5 cm between rows, and 3 rows are girdled each time, with the cuts staggered so that they do not meet; cuts that face each other easily create holes, and the wounds do not heal easily.
