Suitable Timing and Site Selection for Girdling Jujube Trees

Girdling Timing and Site

The suitable time for girdling jujube trees is during full bloom. For mature fruiting trees, the main trunk is preferable, as it is low in position, has well-developed phloem tissue, is easy to strip, and heals quickly. Sites such as main branches have thin phloem tissue, are inconvenient to work with, and wounds there heal slowly. Generally, if the main trunk diameter is less than 10 cm and the scaffold branches have not yet formed, girdling is not advisable. However, under conditions of high fertilizer and abundant water, some growers also girdle the main trunk or main branches of densely planted high-yield trees, achieving high yields while the canopy still develops well.
