What are the methods for harvesting jujube fruit? A detailed explanation of the correct harvesting techniques
Jujube fruit can be harvested in two ways depending on the variety and use: manual harvesting and ethephon-induced abscission harvesting. (1) Manual harvesting. Manual harvesting includes picking by hand and knocking down with a pole followed by gathering from the ground. Picking by hand is suitable for fresh-eating varieties; this method ensures the fruit's appearance quality, making it glossy and attractive, free of pests, diseases and bruising damage. Knocking jujubes down with a bamboo pole and picking the fallen fruit off the ground is an outdated method and should be avoided as much as possible; (2) Ethephon-induced abscission harvesting. 6 to 7 days before harvest, spray the entire tree evenly once with a 300 to 200 parts per million ethephon aqueous solution. 4 to 5 days after spraying, fruit drop enters its peak period, and around 6 days all ripe fruit can be induced to fall.
