Pruning and training methods for the natural open-center tree form in the first three years
Pruning methods for the natural open-center tree form from the first to the third year
For trees of the natural open-center form from 1 to 3 years old, the purpose of pruning at this stage is to extend the trunk of the jujube tree to a certain height. To promote growth, prune away the secondary branches distributed below 1.5 m along the trunk each winter. To ensure the expansion of the canopy, prune progressively from the bottom upward along the trunk during pruning; by the third year, the tree can generally reach the height for trunk determination.
