How to Renew Old Jujube Trees? Natural and Artificial Renewal Methods
As the branch age of a jujube tree increases, the main branches of the jujube limbs keep elongating and drooping, and at the arched part, water sprouts (vigorous shoots) tend to grow and replace the old branch tips; this is natural renewal. In senescent trees, the capacity for natural renewal weakens, but some vegetative branches often still grow in bare areas. Adopting a method that combines artificial renewal with natural renewal can accelerate the renewal of old branches. The method is to saw off the branch tips at the front end of the naturally renewed branches; all the old branches can be sawed off within 1 year, or this can be done over several years. Because the front end is sawed off, the vegetative branches behind it are stimulated to accelerate and elongate, so that new branches replace the old ones.
