The occurrence pattern of the jujube bud weevil
The jujube bud weevil has one generation a year, overwintering as larvae in the soil at a depth of 5 to 50 cm, pupating in March to April of the following year, and adults can be seen in jujube orchards from April to June. Mid-April to early May is the peak period for adults to emerge from the soil, mate, and lay eggs, and is also the peak period of damage. Adults are gregarious; when feeding, they first eat young leaves and tender buds into notched shapes, and then eat them completely, causing the jujube fruiting branch to sprout a second time. The larvae enter the soil to overwinter in September.
