Prevention and treatment of common fish diseases this spring
This spring, various bacteria (pathogens, fungi) and pests (parasites) begin to become active, harming overwintering adult fish and fingerlings stocked in winter and spring. In addition, after a whole winter without feeding, the fish are relatively weak and highly susceptible to multiple diseases. Therefore, prevention and treatment of various fish diseases must be done well to ensure normal fish growth. Common fish diseases in spring and their prevention and treatment methods are:

Lepisosteus disease (dropsy)  The symptoms are rough body surface, scales standing up like a pinecone, edema at the base of the scales, and fluid flowing out when slightly pressed. The prevention and treatment method is: in the early stage of the disease, add fresh water to the pond; when stocking fingerlings, soak the fish body in 3% salt water for 15 minutes.

Saprolegniasis  Caused by hyphae such as algae-like water molds parasitizing the fish body. The diseased fish has grayish-white mold hair on the skin and gills, swims abnormally, and has reduced appetite, leading to emaciation and death. The prevention and treatment method is: do not injure the fish during catching, transportation, and stocking; per cubic meter of water, use 0.15 g of malachite green or 2 g of gallnut dissolved in water and splash over the whole pond. In addition, when stocking fingerlings, soak the fish body in 5% salt water for 5 minutes.

Ichthyobodo disease  This disease mainly harms fingerlings and is caused by floating Ichthyobodo invading the fish's gills and skin. When large numbers of Ichthyobodo parasitize the fish's skin, a layer of blue-gray mucus forms. The prevention and treatment method is: per cubic meter of water, use 0.7 g of a mixture of copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate in a 5:2 ratio, dissolve in water, and splash over the whole pond; when stocking fingerlings, soak the fish body in 3% salt water for 30 minutes.

Chilodonelliasis  Caused by Chilodonella parasitizing the fish's skin or gills. The diseased fish secretes large amounts of mucus on the body surface and gills, forming a light gray film, which affects the fish's respiratory function, causing difficulty breathing and death. The prevention and treatment method is: splash copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate, with the same dosage as for Ichthyobodo disease. In addition, when stocking fingerlings, soak the fish body in 4% salt water or 2.5% potassium permanganate solution for 5 minutes.

Trichodiniasis  Caused by Trichodina parasitizing the fish's skin, gills, fins, and other parts. Many small white spots can be seen with the naked eye at the affected areas, and in severe cases the skin is covered with a white film. Diseased fish swim slowly, float on the water surface, sometimes gather in the pond, and constantly rub their bodies against other objects, soon dying in batches. The prevention and treatment method is: add 0.3 g of malachite green per cubic meter of water to make a solution and soak the fish body for 2 hours, or per mu of water surface use 250 g of fresh chili peppers and 100 g of ginger, boil in water, and splash over the whole pond.
