Diagnosis and Treatment Methods for Common Diseases in Tilapia
    1. Saprolegniasis

[Treatment] Do not injure the fish during netting or transport; after saprolegniasis is detected, raise the water temperature of the overwintering pond to 20°C; splash the entire pond with a mixed solution of table salt and baking soda.

    2. Ichthyophthiriasis (white spot disease)

[Diagnosis] The symptoms are many small white dot-like cysts on the body surface and gills of infected tilapia.

[Treatment] Disinfect the overwintering pond with quicklime. Soak the diseased fish in salt water.

    3. Chilodonelliasis

[Diagnosis] Caused by Chilodonella invading the skin and gills of the fish. The symptoms are that the diseased fish secretes large amounts of mucus, and the surface of the skin and gills appears pale white.

[Treatment] Thoroughly disinfect the overwintering pond with quicklime, or splash copper sulfate over the entire pond for disinfection; when the fish enter the overwintering pond, soak them in copper sulfate solution; during treatment, splash a mixture of copper sulfate and ferrous sulfate over the entire pond. Soak the diseased fish in salt water.

    4. Trichodiniasis

[Diagnosis] Caused by large numbers of Trichodina parasitizing the gills and skin of the fish. Diseased fish swim alone away from the group, float slowly at the water surface, and lose appetite; this can cause mass mortality.

[Treatment] Disinfect the overwintering pond with copper sulfate; or soak in salt water.

    5. Argulosis (fish louse disease)

[Diagnosis] Caused by fish lice invading the body surface of the fish. Diseased fish are restless and relatively thin; in severe cases, the diseased fish swim alone away from the group, float at the water surface, and their body color turns black, eventually leading to death.

[Treatment] Prevention and control methods: before overwintering, splash crystallized trichlorfon over the entire pond. Or splash fish-specific insecticide over the entire pond.
