Fish Myxosporidiosis
    Main pathogen: Myxosporidia.

Affected species: carp, crucian carp and various other fish.

Suitable control period: May to September.

Identifying features: There are many species of Myxosporidia, their parasitic sites are extremely diverse, and the symptoms they cause and the damage they inflict also vary. Myxobolus cyprinicola (round spore) parasitizes the intestinal wall of grass carp and the muscle of carp, forming white cysts; Myxobolus drjagini parasitizes the sensory organs of fish, causing the fish to swim wildly and spin in circles, commonly known as "mad fish disease"; Myxosoma parasitizes the kidney, spleen, liver, swim bladder, digestive tract and other parts of fish, causing the abdomen to swell and the fish to lose balance; Thelohanellus kitauei parasitizes the intestinal wall of fish, forming large cysts that block the intestinal tract; Myxobolus lentisuturalis parasitizes under the scales of fish, forming oval, scale-like flat cysts that often cause the scales to stand up.

Control methods: (1) Soak the fish in a 5 mg/L chloroquine phosphate solution, which can kill the trophic forms of Myxosporidia; it is quite effective in preventing Myxobolus drjagini. (2) Dissolve 0.5 g of crystalline trichlorfon per cubic meter of water and splash it over the whole pond. (3) Dissolve 1.5 g of methylene blue per cubic meter of water and splash it over the whole pond to treat thelohanellosis. (4) Mix 4-8 mg of levamisole per kilogram of fish body weight into the feed and administer for 20 consecutive days. (5) Mix 20-40 g of areca nut per kilogram of fish body weight into the feed and administer once a day for 15 consecutive days. (6) Mix and feed cycloguanil hydrochloride; use 0.2 g per 10,000 fry, dissolve it in a small amount of water, then mix it into the feed, starting on the third day after the fry are stocked into the pond, for 7 consecutive days as one course of treatment; when the fry grow to 3.2 cm, give another course, with a daily dosage of 0.3-0.4 g per 10,000 fry. When disease occurs, for fry 3-4 cm long, increase the dosage to 1.5-2 g per 10,000 fry, for 7-8 consecutive days.
