How to Use Isatis Root to Prevent and Treat Fish Diseases
Using Isatis Root to Prevent and Treat Fish Diseases
Isatis root, also known as daban root or daqing root, is bitter and cold in nature. Isatis root has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, cooling blood and stopping bleeding. Its decoction has an inhibitory effect on both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. The acetone extract of the root also has antibacterial effects. Isatis root has good effects against a variety of bacteria and viruses. The applications of isatis root in the prevention and treatment of fish diseases are introduced as follows:
1. Prevention and treatment of grass carp hemorrhagic disease. Starting 1 month before the disease season arrives, feed a course of isatis root and Andrographis paniculata mixture every half month, which has a special effect in preventing hemorrhagic disease. The specific method is: on the first day, use 2.5 kg of isatis root and 1.5 kg of Andrographis paniculata per 100 kg of fish, soak them in boiling water for 1 hour, take the liquid and add 0.5 kg of salt, then mix in 4 kg of wheat bran or corn flour to make medicated bait and feed; on the second day, take the medicinal residue left from the first day, put it in a pot, add water and decoct for 1.5 hours, take the liquid and feed once more in the same way as on the first day. Alternatively, use 0.5 kg each of rhubarb, Phellodendron bark, Scutellaria baicalensis, and isatis root plus 0.5 kg of salt per 100 kg of fish daily, mix with feed and feed continuously for 7 days to prevent and treat grass carp hemorrhagic disease. Or mix 70% isatis root and 30% Picrasma quassioides in proportion, and feed 2.5 kg to 5 kg of medicated bait per 100 kg of fish each month, in which for every 0.5 kg of medicinal powder, add 5 g to 10 g of sulfonamide drugs, and feed continuously for 5 days to 7 days.
2. Prevention and treatment of concurrent bacterial gill rot and enteritis in grass carp. First, spread 15 kg of quicklime throughout the pond per mu at a water depth of one meter, then use 50 g of yellow edge fibrous root and 100 g of isatis root per mu at a water depth of one meter, add 2.5 kg of water and decoct into a medicinal soup, then cook rice or rice grain with the medicinal soup to feed the fish, once a day, for 2 consecutive days. For severe cases, feed 3 to 4 consecutive times.
3. Prevention and treatment of concurrent red skin disease, gill rot disease, and enteritis disease in long-snouted catfish. Use 100 g of isatis root, Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria barbata, Andrographis paniculata, Houttuynia cordata, thatch root, and licorice juice per 100 kg of fish, decoct the juice in appropriate proportions, add 2 g of oxytetracycline, evenly mix into the feed and feed, once a day, for 5 consecutive days; combined with external bactericidal and disinfectant drugs, this disease can be effectively prevented and treated.
4. Prevention and treatment of gill adenitis disease in soft-shelled turtles. Spray the whole pond evenly with a water decoction of 20 ppm of Folium Isatidis and 40 ppm of isatis root, which can effectively prevent and treat gill adenitis disease in soft-shelled turtles; for severely affected soft-shelled turtles, inject compound Folium Isatidis and isatis root injection at a dose of 2 ml/kg, 2 injections per day, then soak them in a 60 ppm mixture of Folium Isatidis and isatis root (1:2), with remarkable curative effect.
