What is the most suitable age for fattening beef cattle
The most suitable age for fattening beef cattle
In general, the weight gain of young cattle consists mainly of muscle, internal organs, and bone, whereas the weight gain of adult cattle, in addition to muscle growth, is mainly fat deposition. Age has a great influence on the weight gain of cattle. The general rule is that beef cattle gain weight fastest in the first year after birth; the weight gain rate in the second year is only 70% of that in the first year, and the weight gain in the third year is only 50% of that in the second year. Feed utilization rate shows a downward trend as age increases and body weight increases; generally, the older the animal, the more feed is consumed per kilogram of weight gain. Within the same breed, beef quality and slaughter weight are greater in cattle, but the variation is not as great as the influence of age.
