What are the characteristics of Hereford cattle? A complete guide
Characteristics of Hereford cattle
The Hereford is a small-to-medium-sized early-maturing beef cattle breed, originating in England. The head is short, the forehead broad; the horns are wax-yellow or white and extend to both sides, curving slightly downward; the neck is short and thick with a well-developed dewlap; the trunk is full and muscular, the shoulder area broad, the chest wide and deep, the ribs well sprung, the back and loins straight, the rump full, and the limbs thick and short. The entire body presents the typical rectangular beef cattle conformation. The coat is red in varying shades and features the "six whites" trait, namely the head, lower parts of the limbs, lower abdomen, withers, and tail tuft are white. An adult bull weighs 850 to 1000 kg, and a cow 600 to 700 kg. Birth weight is 32 to 34 kg.
