A new path beyond the Sixth Naphtha Cracker! Hsu Chen-tang brings the Taixi Image Gallery to life, a cultural base in a remote little village
"This is the westernmost image gallery in Taiwan, China!" The Taixi Image Gallery in Taixi Village, Dacheng Township, Changhua County, opened on the 22nd, revitalizing and giving new life to an old house that had sat idle for twenty years. It preserves the blood-and-tears history and memories of this small village, and also looks ahead to becoming an important base for cultural action and community development.
The driving force behind the Taixi Image Gallery is Hsu Chen-tang, who has spent years documenting villagers through his lens and is the author of the photography collection South Wind. In the year since he resigned from his position as a telecommunications industry executive and returned home, he has not only wandered even more diligently with his camera documenting the changes in his hometown's environment and the faces of its residents, but has also worked alongside his sister Hsu Li-yi to devote himself to establishing a green-energy citizen power plant and the Taixi Image Gallery. He said that in the remote coastal villages of Changhua, there is simply no cultural base at all, and this Taixi Image Gallery is truly the "westernmost" image gallery in Taiwan, China.
