Crazy paving is a rather casual paving method; it can use stone in different specifications, different forms, and even stone offcuts. Of course, we can also cut stone freely to achieve the form we want when piecing it together.

Courtyard crazy paving

In a refined and elegant courtyard, paving that is too neat and regular is instead dull; stone of different specifications, colors and forms, combined at will, brings a distinctive charm.

Crazy paving in public spaces

Public sites often give off a serious air; while crazy paving breaks that atmosphere, it can also express a sense of fashion.

Stone crazy paving craft

Select crushed stone pieces, snap chalk lines and do a trial layout, treat the base course, sweep on plain cement slurry, lay the mortar leveling course, lay the crushed stone pieces, grout the joints, polish and wax.

1. According to the color and specifications required by the design, select the crushed stone pieces; those with cracks should be rejected.

2. According to the pattern required by the design and combined with the landscape dimensions, snap lines on the base course and find the finished surface elevation, then carry out a trial layout to determine the joint size.

3. After cleaning the base course thoroughly, sprinkle water to moisten it and brush on plain cement slurry.

4. Stretch a level line and lay the mortar leveling course, using 1:3 dry hard cement mortar (it should form a ball when squeezed by hand and crumble at a tap); after laying, screed it flat with a long straightedge and smooth it with a trowel.

5. Lay the crushed stone pieces according to the pattern and the joints determined in the trial layout, using the same method as for a marble floor.

6. After 1-2 days and nights of laying, grout the joints; according to the design requirements, if cement mortar is used for grouting, its thickness should be flush with the top of the crushed stone, and its surface should be leveled and troweled smooth. If cement stone-dust slurry is to be used for grouting, it should be 2mm thicker than the top of the crushed marble.
