Osmanthus is one of China's traditional top ten famous flowers, combining greening, beautification and fragrance in one, with extremely high ornamental value, and it can also be used to make osmanthus tea, with a soft fragrance and a pleasant taste, deeply loved by many people.

To grow osmanthus you have to understand it. Some people say that for enjoying the flowers in August, it all depends on the care in July. Do these 3 things well, and its flower buds will keep emerging, so that when the flowers bloom they cover the branches and the fragrance carries for ten li!

1. Fertilizing

The growth of osmanthus, the differentiation of flower buds and blooming require sufficient fertilizer, especially at the end of July, when enough nutrients are needed, particularly phosphorus fertilizer. But at the end of July the temperature is high and the light is strong, so applying chemical fertilizers and the like easily burns the roots and affects the plant. It is best to bury some base fertilizer in the potting soil; you can use decomposed cake fertilizer, okara and so on, in a small amount, and when burying it be careful not to place it close to the crown.

2. Spraying to lower the temperature and raise humidity

The end of July is the peak period for flower bud differentiation in osmanthus. Relatively low temperature and humidity can promote flower bud differentiation, so every day you can spray water on the branches and leaves and around them, to achieve cooling and raise humidity.

One thing to note: for potted osmanthus, move it to a place with good ventilation, otherwise the flower buds easily rot and blooming is affected.

3. Preventing pests and diseases

Summer is a high-incidence period for pests and diseases. Osmanthus is most prone to brown spot disease, blight spot disease and so on, so during care you must prevent these pests and diseases. Usually strengthen ventilation and promptly remove diseased and damaged branches and leaves. Each month you can spray the branches and leaves with 50% carbendazim wettable powder diluted 1000 times for prevention, and you can scatter some plant ash in the potting soil, which can prevent and kill some bacteria and pests in the soil.

That is all for osmanthus care. If fellow flower growers have other additions, you can share them with everyone in the comment section below. To learn more about flower growing, you can follow Huajianke.
