Treatment and prevention of swollen mouth disease
Symptoms: The area around the mouth of diseased fish becomes congested and swollen, sometimes with saprolegnia growing on it; the mouth cannot move freely and feeding becomes difficult.
Cause: This disease often occurs during the weaning period of juvenile sturgeon. Because there is a lot of leftover bait on the pond bottom and it is not cleaned in time, juvenile sturgeon are prone to mouth inflammation when feeding there. Judging from the fact that this disease is relatively sensitive to some antibacterial drugs, it is generally believed to be caused by bacterial infection. However, no detailed research data on pathogen screening, challenge tests or identification are currently available.
Harm: This disease occurs more often in juvenile sturgeon under 20cm and can cause the death of juvenile sturgeon.
Treatment: ① Disinfect the pond water by splashing enrofloxacin over the whole pond at 1g/cubic meter of water for 3d consecutively; ② Oral treatment: mix 3g of oxytetracycline per 100kg of fish into the bait daily and feed for 3d consecutively.
Prevention: Remove leftover bait from the pond in time and regularly disinfect the feeding table.
