White head and white mouth disease and trichodiniasis in fish

Both conditions present the "white head and white mouth" phenomenon, but the former is a bacterial fish disease, with the obvious feature that the head and snout are milky white, mainly harming the summer fry of the four major Chinese carps about one week after stocking; the disease comes on rapidly and easily causes mass fish deaths. Trichodiniasis, however, is a protozoan disease of fish that can harm various farmed fish species, mainly parasitizing the body surface and gills of fish, irritating the fish and causing them to produce large amounts of mucus, which is easy to observe in the water. When fry about 10 days after being put into the pond are parasitized, the sick fish swim wildly in groups along the pond edge, showing the "horse racing" phenomenon.

Prevention and treatment methods: White head and white mouth disease can be treated by splashing 1ppm bleaching powder over the whole pond. Trichodiniasis can be treated by mixing 0.5ppm copper sulfate and 0.2PPm ferrous sulfate with water and splashing the mixture over the whole pond.
