Pathological changes of cecal coccidiosis in chickens
The lesions are mainly in the ceca. The ceca are markedly enlarged, several times larger than normal, purplish red in appearance, and hard in texture. When the intestinal wall is cut open, the wall is seen to be thickened and inflamed, and the intestinal cavity is filled with a large amount of blood or blood clots, or yellowish-white caseous material, or a mixture of blood and necrotic material; in some cases, a plug formed by blood and necrotic material is present.
