How to Confirm a False Layer? Detailed Identification Methods
Confirming a False Layer
In clinical practice, false layers are not easily distinguished from laying hens. The following can serve as diagnostic criteria:
First, if infectious bronchitis occurred during the chick stage of the laying hens, especially before 2 weeks of age, flocks with a low laying rate after entering the laying period can be suspected of containing false layers.
Second, perform a rectal palpation examination in the morning before the flock has laid eggs. A hen whose pubic bones are open by 3 fingers but in which no egg is found upon examination over several days is a false layer.
