Feeding Methods for Raising Replacement Gilts
Replacement gilts require attention to the feeding method: before reaching a body weight of 60 kg, feed them at a high nutritional level; after reaching a body weight of 60 kg, feed them at a low nutritional level. In terms of feeding technique: during the growing period, the daily feed allowance should account for 2.5 to 3.0% of body weight; after body weight reaches 80 kg, the feed allowance should account for less than 2.5% of body weight. This ensures good growth and development, while also controlling rapid weight gain and ensuring the full development of all tissues and organs. For replacement gilts, body weight is generally controlled at 60 to 70 kg at 5 months of age, 80 to 90 kg at 6 months of age, 100 to 110 kg at 7 months of age, and 120 to 130 kg at 8 months of age.
