Mating Methods and Key Operation Points for Natural Mating in Pigs
Methods of Natural Mating in Pigs
Natural mating in pigs refers to the direct mating of an estrous sow with a boar, and is divided into single mating, repeat mating, double mating, and multiple mating. Single mating means mating only once with one boar during a single estrus period. Repeat mating means mating again with the same boar 8 to 12 hours after the first mating. Double mating means mating once each with 2 boars of the same breed or different breeds, at an interval of 10 to 15 minutes. Multiple mating means mating with the same boar more than 3 times, respectively at the 12th, 24th, and 36th hour after the sow comes into estrus. Sows have the characteristic of continuous ovulation, and repeat mating or double mating can increase the conception rate and the number of piglets born.
