When I stand by the window, your lovely figures come into view.
Looking at you, so colorful and varied in form, looking at you, so charmingly naive and endearingly petite, I feel as if I have met the self who gets everything they want.
The round and plump Peach Egg
The charmingly naive Bear's Paw
That feeling of joy and contentment slowly rising in my heart, that calm power that can embrace the ocean, rarely appears at any other moment in life.
Even if a child scored 100 on a test, even if I found a novel I love, even if I received an unexpected gift, none of it compares to the peace and joy of every moment spent with you. (It feels like a confession to a lover, haha)
But that is how it really is: the longer I spend with you, the deeper my love and attachment grow. Sometimes when I am with you, I think: Why did I fall in love with you? Just as why do we fall in love with a person?
Because through our interaction with another person, we see our own soul. And if the person we love happens to reflect, through his positive energy, empathy, and confidence, the beautiful self we long to be, then would that feeling of joy, satisfaction, and being recognized not ripple through our hearts?
And what a rare, what a precious encounter that is, something that cannot be sought but only met by chance?
But perhaps what we really need is simply to be seen for who we are.
So, in every present moment we spend with succulents, we see the self we want to be. Actually, it should be said that we enter another realm where we forget ourselves.
When we choose pots for newly bought succulents, mist them with water, pinch off dead leaves, or do nothing at all but quietly keep the beautiful ones company in the setting sun, how focused we are, how patient, and how full our hearts are of love and light.
Just as in the Book of Songs, "Zhou Nan. Fu Yi"
"We gather and gather the plantain, here we gather it. We gather and gather the plantain, here we have it. We gather and gather the plantain, here we pick it.
We gather and gather the plantain, here we pull it. We gather and gather the plantain, here we tuck it in our skirts. We gather and gather the plantain, here we carry it home in our skirts."
Gathering and gathering plantain, gather it, quickly go gather it. Gathering and gathering plantain, gather it, quickly gather it up.
Gathering and gathering plantain, pick it up one stalk at a time. Gathering and gathering plantain, pull it off one handful at a time.
Gathering and gathering plantain, lift the hem of your dress to hold it. Gathering and gathering plantain, tuck the hem of your dress to carry it back.
This simple joy and love that comes from between heaven and earth, are the succulents that accompany us at all times not just like the plantain of the ancient women?
How fortunate I am to have all of you to comfort me through life!
