Introduction

Green plants and potted flowers are now essential decorative touches in home life. Keeping some flowers and plants at home brings many benefits: it beautifies the living space and lifts the mood. "Flower Voice Potted Plant Diary, Issue 1153" introduces you to a new type of ornamental plant.

Today's star

Golden pothos, spider plants, succulents and the like are basically already household staples and commonplace indoor plants, so surely everyone has grown "aesthetically tired" of them. The flower introduced this time is called the blue butterfly, with beautiful and unusual blooms that, though rarely seen, make people fall in love at first sight.

Blue butterfly

The blue butterfly, native to Uganda in Africa and introduced for cultivation in South China, is a perennial small evergreen shrub of the genus Clerodendrum in the verbena family. It is a woody plant rather than a herbaceous one, and is a close relative of the well-known bleeding heart glorybower (Clerodendrum thomsoniae). It gets its name because it bears blue flowers shaped much like butterflies.

Long flowering period

Plants from tropical regions generally have very long flowering periods. For example, bleeding heart glorybower, hibiscus and rocktrumpet bloom all year round. The blue butterfly is no exception. In China, apart from winter, this plant blooms in the other three seasons, and in northern regions in winter, if moved indoors with heating, it can also bloom normally.

Easy care

The blue butterfly is tough and hardy, with strong adaptability to its environment. It is not difficult to grow and is very easy to keep alive. It likes well-drained sandy loam soil and has low fertilizer requirements. Water it following the principle of "dry then wet, don't water until dry." It can be propagated by cuttings from branches, with a very high survival rate.

Worth having

The blue butterfly has not been in China for long and is still a relatively niche flowering shrub. Because of its outstanding flower shape and color, it has become a veritable "internet-famous flower" with a very good reputation among flower lovers. When in full bloom, it looks just like a swarm of butterflies dancing, with elegant and beautiful flowers and high ornamental value, very much worth having.
