The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) is especially beautiful when it blooms, and its flower colors are very vivid too! But some gardeners find that when their Christmas cactus reaches blooming time, it drops its flower buds and bracts, and then they may miss out on enjoying its beautiful blooms!

Chengcheng tells everyone: when this bud-dropping and bract-dropping happens, at the root of it all, it is still our care that has gone wrong! Generally there are the following reasons:

1. Insufficient light

The Christmas cactus usually grows flower buds in October each year. In this season the daylight hours begin to get shorter, and if it cannot receive sufficient light, it will drop its buds!

So everyone must remember, after entering October, you must give it plenty of light. If you grow it indoors, put it wherever in the home gets the most sunlight!

2. Lack of nutrients

From growing flower buds to blooming, the Christmas cactus needs sufficient nutrients to support it. If nutrients are insufficient, it will inevitably drop its flower buds and bracts! So in autumn, as soon as the Christmas cactus shows flower buds, we should give it a high-phosphorus fertilizer once every 10 days, that is, monopotassium phosphate!

3. Too great a temperature difference

The Christmas cactus likes a warm environment. If during the bud-forming period the temperature suddenly drops, causing too great a temperature difference, it will drop its buds! So if you grow the Christmas cactus outdoors, after autumn arrives you should still move it indoors to grow, to prevent too great a day-night temperature difference from causing it to drop its buds!

The reasons a Christmas cactus drops its buds and bracts are generally just these three!
