Flower lovers who have visited lavender farms will surely be fascinated by the lavender covering the hills and fields. Have you ever thought about growing a beautiful pot of lavender yourself after going home? Today let's briefly introduce how to have your own pot of lavender.

Lavender not only has beautiful flowers, but its fragrance can also refresh the mind and repel insects, so it is very popular among everyone.

1. Propagation by sowing

Lavender can be propagated from harvested seeds. Sowing is earlier in the south, where March to June can be chosen; in the north, April to June is recommended. The optimum temperature for germination is 18-24°C, and the germination period is generally 2-3 weeks.

2. Potting soil selection

Lavender is suitable for slightly alkaline or neutral sandy soil. For the soil, choose a medium with good drainage; you can use a mix of 1/3 perlite, 1/3 vermiculite, and 1/3 peat moss. If cultivating in open ground, pay attention to soil drainage; you can pile the soil up into raised beds before planting.

3. Watering

Lavender should be watered in the morning or evening, and watering should follow the principle of not watering until the soil is dry. Water should be poured directly onto the soil to prevent the plant from getting wet and causing pests and diseases. At the same time, avoid keeping the plant in a moist environment for a long time, as it is prone to root rot and death.

4. Light

Lavender is a sun-loving plant, and a full-sun environment is beneficial to the plant's growth. In summer, during high-temperature weather, pay attention to shading and ventilation, and avoid exposure to strong sun, as the potting soil can easily lose water and dry out. In winter, lavender can grow well on flat ground and should be cultivated under full sun.

5. Temperature

Lavender has a certain degree of heat tolerance; in summer it likes coolness, and in winter it likes warmth. The suitable temperature for growth is 15-25°C, and it can grow at 5-30°C. Limiting temperature: above 35°C, and if it stays above 38-40°C for a long time, the top stems and leaves turn yellow and dry. In northern winters, when it stays below 0°C for a long time, it begins to go dormant; during dormancy, mature plants can tolerate low temperatures of -20 to -25°C.

6. Fertilizing

Lavender should not be fertilized too much, otherwise its fragrance will become weaker. Therefore, fertilizing lavender should follow the principle of frequent applications, small amounts, and a combination of the three key elements nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Apply base fertilizer at the seedling stage, topdress before flowering, and do not fertilize after flowering.

7. Pests and diseases

Lavender rarely suffers from insect pests because its own scent can repel insects, but a common disease is rot, with the roots rotting, which requires treatment with carbendazim.
