How to propagate kalanchoe by cuttings for a high survival rate
1. Stem-tip cuttings
Stem-tip cuttings need a shallow pot, and the soil can be old soil or new soil. After cutting off the stems, it is best to store them for a few days, which gives a higher survival rate; the upper end of the stem should preferably have 2-3 leaves. When planting the cuttings, do not bury the leaves in the soil, and water thoroughly after planting.
2. Stem cuttings
Use a mature fleshy stem 5-6cm long, insert it into a sand bed and water it in time, then cover it with plastic film and give it a growing environment of 15-20°C. New roots will grow in about two weeks, and after about one month it can be potted.
3. Tip-pinching cuttings
First pinch off the growing tip of the plant, and insert the section taken after pinching into the soil; after the soil dries out completely, water thoroughly. During care, it must not be exposed to direct strong light; it can receive diffused light.
4. Leaf cuttings
Cut off healthy, vigorous leaves, place them in a shady spot and wait for the wounds to dry, then insert them into the soil and keep them moist, with no standing water. Keep them in a sunny and ventilated place for care, and they will root in about one month.
5. Water propagation
Prepare the cuttings and let them air-dry naturally for one day. Pour water into a container, poke a hole in the foam, dissolve the rooting powder with alcohol, dip the cuttings in some rooting powder and insert them into the hole. Move them to a bright place and wait for them to root.
