Lucky bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana) is a foliage houseplant that gardening enthusiasts all love. It is usually grown in water, but if you grow it in soil it is also especially beautiful, and it can even produce white flowers that are especially fragrant. If grown in water, because it lacks many nutrient elements it is very hard for it to bloom, and water culture is also relatively simple. Today I will share a little method to make your water-grown lucky bamboo grow fast with oily green leaves, and make your soil-grown lucky bamboo covered in big white flowers, filling the whole house with fragrance.

Isn't it beautiful? If you like it too, then come along with Xiaohua and take a look at the care methods!

Let's first talk about water-grown lucky bamboo. Because water culture is clean and hygienic, many gardening enthusiasts like to keep a pot at home, but it is very hard for water-grown plants to bloom. Still, if the leaves can be oily green, it is also very beautiful.

When we bring a newly bought lucky bamboo home, we first need to cut the base diagonally. Use a sharp knife, and the cut should be smooth. After it dries, it can be put in water for care. Before rooting, we should ideally use clean water for care. If it is tap water, it needs to be left to sit for a day before use. We can add a few small pieces of charcoal to the water. Put it in a cool, ventilated place, and generally it will root in about 10 days. After rooting, a little nutrient solution needs to be added, because plain clean water cannot grow lucky bamboo well.

At this point, when adding water we can add a few drops of nutrient solution, the kind sold in flower shops is fine, generally 3-4 drops at a time.

In winter, spring and autumn, change the water about once every 10 days; in summer, about every 5 days. This way the lucky bamboo can grow fast. Every time you change the water, wash the roots clean and cut off any rotten parts.

Lucky bamboo likes semi-shade, so put it in a place where it can see sunlight but is not in direct sunlight. Pay attention to this point.

We can also transfer water-grown lucky bamboo to soil culture. Generally speaking, soil-grown lucky bamboo grows better than water-grown, is easier to keep well and to flower, because there are more nutrients in the soil. Put it in a place with scattered light and keep it ventilated and moist.

At this point we need to pay attention to the following care points:

1. Fertile, loose sandy soil is best. Specifically, it can be mixed in a ratio of sand, garden soil and leaf mold of 1:4:5, and it is even better to add a little crushed eggshell. Also, a layer of broken foam pieces can be placed at the bottom of the pot, which can increase the air permeability of the potting soil and also prevent root rot.

2. From April to October is the growing period. Water when the potting soil is dry, about once every 3-5 days; water less in winter. Often spray water on the leaf surface.

3. Apply a small amount of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer every half a month to 20 days.

After a few years, perhaps the lucky bamboo will bloom. This is something that can be encountered but not sought, and when it happens your good luck has arrived, adding beauty to an already wonderful life!
