What to Do When You Overwater a Cyclamen? Detailed Fixes
1. Treatment Methods
(1) When you notice you have overwatered, the first thing to do is stop watering; do not water for about two to three days so the water in the pot dissipates as quickly as possible.
(2) You can use a trowel or similar tool to loosen the soil. Once the soil is loose and aerated, its moisture may evaporate faster, which helps the plant recover.
(3) Besides loosening the soil, you can also place the plant in a well-ventilated spot. A faster-moving airflow also helps moisture dissipate, and this is another way to speed things up.
(4) Besides letting the water in the soil evaporate, you also need to provide plenty of light. This is because the plant must not stop growing at this point, and light lets it keep accumulating nutrients for growth after it recovers.
2. Watering Precautions
Once the water has evaporated, check whether the plant has returned to normal. If it has recovered, you can go back to normal care. You can water normally, but you need to use the right method. The main points to note are:
(1) Overall principle: "water when dry, hold off when wet." Judge whether to water by observing the state of the soil. If the soil is dry, water it; if the soil is not dry, do not water. And when you do water, water thoroughly.
(2) Watering frequency differs by season. In spring and autumn the frequency is higher, about once every one to two days. Water less in summer and winter; in summer it is because of dormancy, and in winter because of the low temperature.
