The jade plant (Crassula ovata) is a fairly common flowering plant in everyday life. It likes a dry, sunny environment, and the growing environment must not have strong light; it is slightly shade-tolerant. The jade plant is actually quite easy to care for, but when caring for it, if you want the jade plant to grow vigorously, repotting and fertilizing are still very necessary. So how do you repot and fertilize a jade plant?

How do you repot a jade plant?

1. When repotting a jade plant, first choose a slightly larger pot so that the jade plant has enough space to grow. When choosing soil, choose soil that is loose, breathable and well-draining. You can use garden soil or soil from under trees, then add leaf mold, and mix in some river sand. This way it is both breathable and has enough nutrients.

2. Pour the mixed soil into the pot, take the jade plant out of its original pot, remove all the damaged, rotten parts of its root system, soak it briefly in a carbendazim solution, let it dry, and then plant it in the pot.

3. After repotting, put it in a cool, ventilated place. Do not water it for 6-12 hours, then water it slowly, and normal care is all that is needed.

How do you fertilize a jade plant?

Before planting a jade plant or after repotting it, you should fertilize the jade plant. At this time you can use a base fertilizer; well-rotted organic fertilizer is better. Once the jade plant enters its growing season, you should also give it a top dressing to provide plenty of fertilizer for better growth. Generally, applying it 2-3 times a month is enough. When fertilizing a jade plant, the amount and method of fertilization differ from season to season, so you must pay attention when fertilizing.

For a jade plant in spring and autumn, when the jade plant is growing fairly vigorously, generally fertilize about once every half a month, and when watering, water once every 3 days; when summer arrives, the jade plant will enter a semi-dormant state because the temperature is relatively high. In the semi-dormant state the jade plant grows slowly, or even does not grow at all, so do not fertilize at this time; in winter, reduce fertilization, but after the Frost's Descent solar term, do not fertilize the jade plant anymore.
