Lanzhou lily is a renowned specialty of Gansu Province, with a color as white as jade and thick, sweet flesh. Its quality is famous throughout the world, hence the reputation "Lanzhou lily is the finest under heaven." When the morningstar lilies bloom in brilliant red, it actually refers to the flowering appearance of wild lilies.

Lanzhou lily has a double-layer root system. When growing it at home, choose a deep pot. It prefers semi-shade conditions and has strong shade tolerance. However, its light requirements differ across growth stages. In the early and middle stages it prefers light, especially during the bud formation and flowering period. If the light is too weak, the flower buds tend to drop, but it fears high temperatures and strong light. The lily is a long-day plant; extending daylight can make it bloom earlier, while insufficient or shortened daylight delays flowering.

Lanzhou lily prefers dry conditions and fears waterlogging. Throughout the growing period, soil moisture must not be too high. If water accumulates after rain, it should be drained promptly; otherwise the bulb, due to lack of oxygen, easily rots, causing the plant to wither and die. High temperature combined with high humidity is especially harmful and often causes the plant to turn yellow and severe disease outbreaks. It is not sensitive to air humidity, so it can grow and develop normally under both the moist atmosphere of the south and the dry atmosphere of the north.

Lanzhou lily is the only lily in China that is both medicinal and edible. Its fibers are fine and its taste is sweet. It can be steamed, boiled, pan-fried, stir-fried or deep-fried in various ways. Besides fresh lily, there are also products such as dried lily and lily flowers.
