Growing vegetables on the balcony and creating your own little balcony flower and vegetable garden is truly a joy. Using the vegetables you already have to propagate even more vegetables by cuttings is simply endless fun and fills your heart with a sense of accomplishment. Vegetables can be propagated by cuttings too? Let's take a look - it's simple.

1. Plant the roots of leftover celery (or cilantro) in a flower pot,

and in a few days new leaves will grow,

then slowly grow bigger and become a complete celery plant. If you plant more of them, you can eat them once a month, haha, no need to buy them.

Cilantro roots are the same - just plant the roots and cilantro will grow.

2. How to propagate water spinach by cuttings

Take fresh water spinach stems about 10 cm long, pinch off the tips and leaves, and leave a little leaf stalk between the leaves and the stem, which makes it easier for new shoots to sprout. Cut off a small part of the bottom of the stem from a spot with a node, which can prevent the bottom from rotting when inserted into the soil. Insert the water spinach 2-3 cm into the soil, keep it moist and avoid direct sunlight, and it will take root and sprout in 7-10 days.

3. How to propagate Malabar spinach (chan cai) by cuttings

Take about 10 cm of Malabar spinach, trim off the excess leaves, keeping one or two leaves; if a leaf is too large, you can cut off half of it.

Cut a slanted cut at the bottom of the stem, which is even better for absorbing water and nutrients. Cut at a spot where there are new shoots.

It is relatively easy to sprout new roots. Insert it into the soil and water it thoroughly. Keep it moist and avoid direct sunlight, and it will take root in about ten days.

4. How to propagate sweet potato vines by cuttings

Cut off a stem about ten centimeters long and keep a few leaves.

Insert it into a pot 30 cm deep, keep it out of the light for two or three days, and it will root and sprout in 7-10 days. With a deeper pot, you can harvest sweet potatoes in autumn.

5. How to propagate edible Andrographis paniculata by cuttings

Choose relatively thick and strong stems from the top.

Bury the bottom node in the soil, place it in a cool, ventilated spot, and keep the soil slightly moist. After about two weeks you can pinch off the tips to eat. Continually pinching off the tips can prevent the stems from becoming woody and encourage more side shoots to grow.

6. How to propagate tomatoes by cuttings

Choose disease-free side shoots with thick stems, dark green leaves and short internodes, 15-20 cm long, with 4-5 nodes of growing points, intact with flower buds but not yet flowering, for cuttings.

Remove the flower buds, keep 3-4 leaves on the middle and upper part, and insert as many nodes as possible into the soil, which is good for rooting.

After this has recovered from transplanting, it can bear fruit.

Coarse sand, vermiculite or perlite - these three media can replace garden soil and make rooting easier. For two or three days after cutting, keep it moist and protect it from direct sunlight.
