Grow a pot of "it", beautiful and easy to care for, blooming from April to December, even lazy people can grow "it" well
Lately, fellow flower enthusiasts have been asking me to talk about the desert rose. So many people are growing it now, and it has also been given a nice name, which is also its shortened name, Shamei (Silly Girl). It is relatively easy to grow, with simple management. As long as the temperature is above 15°C and there is sufficient light, it can bloom for nearly 300 days a year. Xiao Qi has grown a few, and from April until now, they have been continuously producing flower buds and blooming without interruption. This winter, if placed indoors in a spot with sufficient light, it will certainly bloom then too. I will make a video for everyone to enjoy! Now let me talk about the care of Shamei!
To grow a desert rose, you must give it sufficient light. Sufficient light is the key to its blooming. The soil mix must be loose and breathable. Xiao Qi mentioned this in a previous video. The Shamei that Xiao Qi grows are all potted in a 1:1 ratio of nutrient soil and coal cinder. You can also use a 1:1 ratio of leaf mold and granular soil, which is also quite good. The key to the soil mix is good drainage, so that the roots won't rot and the plant won't develop black rot.
Since the desert rose blooms continuously, when fertilizing, try to choose fertilizers mainly based on phosphorus and potassium elements. This is not the potassium dihydrogen phosphate we usually talk about. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is a pure phosphorus-potassium fertilizer with basically no other elements. The desert rose blooms continuously, so if you keep using potassium dihydrogen phosphate, other elements will be lacking. Therefore, try to choose fertilizers mainly based on phosphorus and potassium elements. You can buy them anywhere, such as Osmocote A2 and Huaduoduo No. 2, both of which are very good fertilizers. Twice a month is enough, applied regularly, to support its continuous growth and blooming.
The most critical thing in growing Shamei is that the temperature must not be low. Below 10°C, it starts to drop leaves. If the temperature is even lower, it is prone to cold damage, and may even freeze to death. Therefore, the temperature must be kept well. This is the key to growing it well.
For watering, you only need to know one thing: frequently pinch the large tuber of the Shamei with your hand. When the tuber becomes soft, water it thoroughly. In winter, if the temperature is too low, do not water. Just keep the potting soil dry and it will overwinter safely!
Growing a desert rose is this simple. If you grow it as described, I guarantee you can grow it well. There are many varieties of Shamei, with a long blooming period, and simple watering and fertilizing. Don't you also want to grow a pot?
