“
Ornamental bromeliad"
There are many varieties of ornamental bromeliads, including bright red, pink, golden yellow, rose red and other varieties. The brilliant red flower core in the center of Guzmania instantly adds warmth to the home, and a festive atmosphere immediately appears. The name also carries an auspicious meaning. Guzmania is suitable for placing in the living room, where it symbolizes gathering wealth and bringing good fortune.
Ornamental bromeliads are native to the tropical regions of Central and South America. They mainly include 45 genera and 2500 species such as Aechmea, Billbergia, Guzmania, Neoregelia, Tillandsia and Vriesea. They are all herbaceous and can be divided into two categories: epiphytic and terrestrial. Guzmania is a commercial name, and most are bright red. Bromeliad plants also include brilliantly colored purple ones like Tillandsia, and some colorful-leaf varieties with speckles. Actually, they are all very beautiful, right~
Soil
The soil is required to be rich in humus, loose, fertile, and well aerated and drained. Generally, a mixed soil of leaf mold, river sand and a small amount of cake fertilizer can be used as the growing medium.
Fertilizing
During the growing season, liquid fertilizer can be applied once every 10-20 days. When fertilizing, never apply fertilizer into the leaf cup at the center of the plant, so as to avoid causing harm. Fertilizing should be stopped during the flowering period, dormant period and summer.
Watering
Guzmania likes a humid environment. Normally, when the surface of the potting soil turns pale, it can be watered. When watering, be careful to keep sufficient water in the leaf cup. Usually, you can also spray clean water on the leaf surface to remove dust, make the leaf color brighter, and at the same time help photosynthesis and promote robust plant growth.
Temperature
The suitable temperature for Guzmania is 15-22°C. The minimum temperature in winter must not be lower than 10°C, otherwise the plant will suffer cold damage, the leaf color will turn yellow, and robust plant growth will be affected.
Light
Normally place it in a bright spot for care, and the leaf surface will be brightly colored. Do not expose it to strong direct light, especially in summer avoid direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves are prone to turning yellow.
Propagation method
Households generally use division propagation.
The mother plant of Guzmania only blooms once, so after flowering the mother plant will gradually wither, and small shoots will grow from the base. After the flowers fade, you can cut off the mother plant, trim the roots, and replant the small shoots.
Division is suitable in April each year, and generally the shoots are divided when they have 6 leaves. When cultivating new shoots, watering is the key. Do not water thoroughly once after planting; only spray a layer of water on the leaf surface and the surface of the potting soil. Place the flower pot in a semi-shaded, ventilated environment, and after 20 days it will take root.
