Every kind of flowering plant has its own growth habits. Some flowers like warm, humid environments, while others prefer shady, damp ones. No matter which type of plant it is, light is absolutely indispensable. It's just that some flowers can't handle direct sunlight, while others only bloom under the blazing sun.

So when it comes to the topic of whether potted flowers need "shade," many experts who have grown flowers for years also say there really is no precise answer. But in summer, especially like this year, when the weather is so hot, the midday sun is practically a furnace. So you still need to remember to give most flowers some shade.

Of course, there are always a few kinds of potted flowers that don't need shade. They are:

1. Moss rose

Moss rose, which we also call "the undying flower" back home, got that name because its vitality is especially tenacious, it's easy to keep alive, and it blooms readily. Moss rose is a typical courtyard and balcony flower. Without sunlight, it won't bloom. Besides giving it plenty of light, a water-rich environment also helps moss rose grow and propagate quickly, producing flowers in a riot of colors.

2. Geranium

Geranium, I believe many flower lovers are fairly familiar with. This flower blooms brilliantly and has a very long flowering period. It is also a typical balcony flower. The geranium's growth habit is that it likes a sunny, well-ventilated environment. When there is no light or the light is not strong enough, geraniums develop yellow leaves, wilting, and so on, and flowering decreases accordingly. So in summer, don't shade your geraniums!

3. Pennywort

If you want to grow pennywort well, you must remember two factors: plenty of light and plenty of water.

Only with ample sunlight and ample water will pennywort grow like crazy, and when external conditions are suitable, its leaves grow wider and wider. Some flower lovers even grow pennywort with leaves as much as 10 cm across. Many flower lovers wisely keep pennywort on the balcony. That way, even in the hot summer, it not only won't affect its bursting out of the pot, but will also make the pennywort's leaves even more emerald green.

Besides the three plants mentioned above, there are other flowers that don't need shade, and it's up to flower lovers to discover more of them. For some of the more delicate flowers, be sure to use plastic bags or something else to "shade" them, so as not to affect their growth.
