Some flower lovers grow a pot of passion fruit on a balcony or in a courtyard, but the fruit they get is few and also very small. What is going on? Today Hua'er will introduce to everyone these small tips that must be mastered when caring for passion fruit: vigorous growth and densely packed fruit!
Passion fruit is a vine plant and needs sufficient nutrients to support its climbing growth, and most nutrients are taken up from the soil. So when mixing soil, increase the soil's fertility, use leaf mold as the base soil, add some vermiculite and garden soil and mix, and also spread a layer of base fertilizer, which can be decomposed manure, bone meal, etc.
During the peak growth period of passion fruit, loosen the soil in the pot to increase the soil's air permeability. It is best to mound soil around it, then add another layer of soil, making the head area high and gradually lower toward the edge of the flower pot.
Passion fruit has a certain drought tolerance, but if it is too dry, the plant will grow poorly and be unable to bear fruit. Water according to the principle of watering when dry and keeping it wet, and when wet, water thoroughly. In summer, when it is hot and dry, you can spray some water on the branches, leaves and surroundings to increase humidity, so the plant grows more vigorously.
When the plant grows to about 40cm, set up a support for it, build some wooden sticks, strings or a trellis, and let it climb along them. When the main branch grows to about 1 m, pinch off the top to promote the sprouting and growth of side buds. Keep only 2-3 robust side branches on each side. When the side branches grow to 1.5m-2cm, pinch off the tops of the side branches. This makes the plant more vigorous and bear more fruit.
